Lord Demetrios Karalis

The coppery red curls atop this man's head are prone to frizz, no matter the weather or humidity. They sit half a handspan above his skull, ready to float straight away from his dome, even though they have quite the lush thickness. His beard is equally full, obscuring a square jaw and at times half hiding his snake smiling mouth. Clear eyes the color of ice melt on a chilly pond sit below a brow that is marked with squint lines. Though he is well into adulthood, this man is still virile and vital, with his tall form generously muscled and well-maintained.

Most children of House Karalis grow up in or around Wayguard, and often explore some portion of the fortress. It was certainly a given for Demetrios, youngest child of the late Count Vyron Karalis. Demetrios, always an active child, took it to an extreme, seeking every nook and cranny of the place. He had a habit of getting under the feet of dwarven denizens of the fortress, who patiently endured him. As a youth, he made for an equally enthusiastic student in military matters. When the time came for him to take a command of his own, there was no surprise at all when he opted for a post relating to Wayguard itself.

In 629, Demetrios was appointed Keeper of Wayguard. The title is an old one, essentially placing him in command of the fortress' garrison. The dwarvish component of the garrison means there is always some regard to who they will even take orders - or at least strong suggestions - from; they appeared to deem Demetrios both committed and knowledgeable enough.

He has by no means spent his life confined to the fortress though. He has done his share of travel within Trapezus, most often to see off raiders from the Red Waste. He also visits Sanctuary, there for the sake of diversity of social engagement; Wayguard does not exactly have a thriving social scene.

Demetrios never quite lost the energy or enthusiasm of youth. His whole demeanour is lively enough that people have more than once wondered if he is who he says he is; high energy and a bright outlook do not quite fit the stereotype of a guardian of an ancient fortress. He knows Wayguard extremely well, likely outdone only by the long-lived dwarves resident there. Few are as knowledgeable as he is about the particulars of defending a fortress, at least in theory - in practice, Wayguard has not been attacked in his lifetime. As much as he is enthusiastic about his home, he is also rather fond of general social engagement, and routinely visits Sanctuary to that end.

Demetrios is a fine commander, highly familiar with Wayguard, and adept when commanding heavy infantry.
