Description
Background
Raimund always expected to be a warrior, even from a young age. His father had a martial disposition and a love of hunting, much of which Raimund inherited. In 612, Achim died in a hunting accident, rather abruptly leaving Raimund's brother, Gerald, as Count of South Valley. While young Raimund was swift to offer his also young brother support, South Valley proved to be stable enough, and Raimund spent a few years in Sanctuary honing his skills. He spent so much time in the company of the Companions of the First King that some began to wonder if he might seek formal admittance. Then in 615, the Duchy of Greenwood in Intis was suddenly left without a ruler, precipitating a crisis within Greenwood. Raimund made nothing of it, until one day speaking with Gerald, he learned of his brother's intent to press his rather distant claim to the duchy. He threw himself wholeheartedly behind his brother's claim.
Raimund was still in his early 20s when preparations to invade Greenwood began, and the coalition counted among its number many able soldiers. Raimund was a prominent presence by his brother's side whenever military matters were raised, but deferred to others on strategy. The Greenwood War of 617 was short, with only a few skirmishes, and none in Intis who were willing to face the coalition in open battle bar one Count Wilhelm Ritter, who withdrew his army after a day of negotiations. The memory of the Ritter forces assembled to block the road is one that has stuck with Raimund to this day. There was every indication that they would give battle if their count required it, even in the face of overwhelming odds.
In the years since, Raimund has found himself compelled to grow into the role of not just warrior but leader. Whenever martial matters arise, and there is certainly no shortage of them of late, he can often be found acting on his brother's behalf. Being that his brother as yet has no children nor indeed a wife, Raimund, also unmarried, is next in line, and is widely regarded as being Gerald's second, his foremost lieutenant, even if Raimund himself has no intention of being any more than a soldier.
Personality
Raimund is a knight through and through. As a young man, he had contemplated seeking membership of the Companions of the First King. He is an ardent adherent of the Cult of Valon. His honour and his sense of duty are unquestionable, outdone only by his love for his brother.
He is an adept warrior and amply able when leading small units of knights. As a strategist, though, he falters, and he knows it. Gerald might very well want Raimund to arrange every particular of Greenwood and South Valley's defence, but Raimund then delegates the specifics to others. He is not shy about his shortcomings.
In his spare time, when not occupied with tournaments, he has a particular fondness for telling and for hearing stories.
Notable Traits
Raimund is an able fighter and thrives when leading small bands of knights.
