Exalted Adon Rannal

The years have done nothing to diminish the potency of this man's presence. He is vital, regal, possessed of that *something* that few people have that makes them intriguing to nearly anyone within the vicinity. His hair is shocked white with age, but his thick eyebrows still maintain a tint of something darker, though grey. His obsidian chip black eyes still observe the world with clarity, despite being lined at the corners with the crinkles of the passage of time. And his skin, though dusted with long years and the whisper of endless responsibility, is dark and fairly smooth, scented often with a light oil of exotic spices.

Adon Rannal, a much younger cousin of the late King Kazbel Rannal, was born some years after the civil strife that saw House Anast deposed and replaced by House Rannal, and decades before Kabzel opted to have Hadash join the empire. He involved himself in the administration of the expansive royal lands from a young age, first one nome, then two of them, then by about 610, much of the city of Sanctuary. In 616, Kabzel appointed Adon his vizier, or chief minister.

Misic succeeded to the throne in 620 and Adon was thrown into a turbulent environment, starkly different to his decades of relatively steady administration. Misic is erratic and dangerously paranoid, but has not yet gone so far as to eject his father's vizier. Adon has worked around the king as much as possible, being creative or flexible in his interpretation of the king's orders, but there is only so far that that can go sometimes. Adon's ushering out and rescue of imperial diplomats from Misic's order to execute them in 631 rather stretched the definition of flexible interpretation, and matters may be at a breaking point.

Adon has decades of experience of being a sensible, stolid administrator, and he might have remained so but for also having a decade or so of experience of trying to work around a dangerously erratic monarch in the interests of keeping the realm functioning, which has left him increasingly worn and harried. He cannot simply retire and settle down, or, rather, he could, but he knows on a fundamental level that he is the last sure guard against Misic inflicting horror on others, and he has discovered that he has a basic sense of decency which stops him from enabling that. There might be a time when he can settle down to enjoy his boat on the Emerald River, but it doesn't seem close.

Adon has extensive experience as a vizier, or chief minister, and might be unrivalled in his ability to lead the people of Hadash.
