Lord Detlef Salfeld

This gentleman is scattered. He does not lack for generally attractive features, it is just that all of them have a peculiarity to them. His slicked back silver locks often have flyaways at the hairline. His lightning shock blue eyes are constantly moving in observation and are never at rest unless he is asleep. And while his countenance is noble by its very nature, it is riddled with worry lines upon his brow and his mouth is pursed often in distracted thought.

Detlef is an older first cousin of Duke Gerald Salfeld. He has always had a head for numbers and a solid grasp on economics. While his early adult years were defined mostly by helping to balance the books for his uncle, the late Count Achim Salfeld, who was given far more to martial pursuits and hunting, both fine noble occupations, than to managing finances, his more recent adult years have instead been given to even more difficult balancing of books for Gerald, who is a social and political maven.

During the preparations for the Greenwood War, Detlef juggled umpteen different financial matters all at once. He was a major presence when the accord with House Corti to ensure funds were available for the coalition was struck. Since the Salfelds took Greenwood, he has been preoccupied ever since with keeping the duchy's finances in order. It is no small feat. While the duchy is certainly not impoverished, many in it believe that a war with the Dominion of Rin is looming, and so Detlef finds himself once more building a war chest.

Detlef is a man with a perpetually harried air about him. His mind is always racing ahead, completing an assessment of the here and now but then also going over various possible eventualities and their likely impacts. He generally presents as a little anxious, indeed. He does have a great mind for numbers and a grasp of economics that has allowed him to successfully juggle Salfeld's obligations for years. He tends to assume that everyone has precisely the same understanding as him, unless and until someone explicitly tells him otherwise.

The one way to reliably have Detlef calm his mind somewhat is for him to be removed entirely from the environment of economics and administration. He knows this, himself, even if he finds it hard to disengage. He is routinely hauled along to events and functions by various family and friends.

Detlef is exceedingly intelligent with a fine grasp on economics and administration, and really rather anxious.
