Mayor Emilio Corti

Emilio Corti is the younger brother of the late Giorgia Corti, formerly the head of House Corti. She was already well underway in her career by the time he got started. As is something of a custom in the house, he was appointed a city councillor in Gela on reaching adulthood, a position he arranged for his children years later, too. He chose to focus his efforts on the commerce flowing through the city. House Corti doesn't own the whole place, but it owns every significant business, including the main mercantile concerns.

He was made Mayor of Gela in 610, the head of the city council. In theory, the place has codified laws. In practice, House Corti amends them from time to time as needed to benefit its businesses and stifle others. Emilio has excelled at that and the suppression of dissent. The foreign commerce must continue unimpeded by others. He was closely involved in the negotiations for House Corti to fund House Salfeld's seizure of the Duchy of Greenwood and has relished in the additional trade flowing to Gela since.

Emilio is a fine administrator and magistrate. Few in the empire can claim to have made as many laws as Emilio has. None at all can claim to have made as many wholly self-serving laws. He remains thorough in erasing what vestiges of ability there might be for independent mercantile concerns to operate in Gela. It is not an ambition, as such, but just what he does, because that is how things are and should be.

He spends his share of time in Sanctuary too to represent the house's concerns there. Being that he cannot exactly exert his same strict control in the imperial capital, he presents himself more as a pragmatic magistrate. He can even be somewhat charming, in moderation.

Emilio is almost unflappable and a highly competent if harsh administrator.
