Galina of Heka

Galina grew up in a tiny fishing village in Heka Nome, miles north of Pearlsedge. One day, abruptly deciding she wanted to do something besides catch fish and mend nets, she made her way south to join the Pearlguard, the garrison of Pearlsedge. There has not been any military threat to Pearlsedge in recorded history, but the Pearlguard is still responsible for ensuring the safety of caravans as far as the Emerald River. The garrison is well equipped and drilled, but it is small and has no real experience of battle. Galina quickly proved to have a talent as a fighter, and in 630 was named Captain of the Pearlguard, placing her in overall charge of the soldiers.

As well as oversight of the garrison, Galina often travels as a bodyguard to members of House Heshbeh. She has consequently been to various places around the continent.

Galina is driven by always wanting to do a little more, and then a little more again. She has gone from living amid a huddle of buildings housing fisherfolk, with an empty plain on one side and a sea which nobody can cross on the other, to being placed in charge of the military of one of the wealthiest cities in Hadash. There is more to do still, she is sure. She has had a glimpse of the armies of distant lands. Perhaps the Pearlguard might emulate them. She knows there is no threat to Pearlsedge, but perhaps House Heshbeh might want to project power, and if so, she will be the means by which they do so. She has access to their exalted personages as she will, right up to the sufet himself.

Some might say that Galina is a woman in dire need of hobbies. Her spare time is mostly occupied honing her military theory or her skill at arms, or associating with those from whom she might learn still more. She makes for dry company. As a leader, she is direct and concise, and tends to trust her subordinates.

Galina is an adroit fighter and has the mind for military matters, though not the actual experience to match some in the empire.
