Description
Background
Mago is the second child of Magon, the previous sufet of , and brother of the current sufet, Kamzu. While Kamzu followed directly in his father's footsteps while growing up, Mago detoured somewhat. Facing danger was all well and good, but where an exalted noble might truly make change was through providing their enlightened guidance to the people as a whole.
As a young man, though it led to friction with his father, who preferred that his line be one of warriors, Mago persisted with his beliefs. His brother might have shared his father's views, but Kamzu and Mago grew up together, less than a year between the two of them, and Kamzu routinely presented himself as a shield against their father's irritation. Eventually, Magon relented, and Mago was granted an official appointment as a high-level overseer.
As the years went on, Mago took on more and more responsibility for administration of Anput and Meseh, juggling whatever came up that he deemed could be improved. More and more, he involved himself in matters of trade, too, the movement of vessels along the Emerald River to the rest of and beyond. Under his watchful eye, his home thrived. After the great flood of 630 AF, he did all he could to put his family's home to rights. In the end, though, he simply saw no way to do so alone. In 631, he persuaded his brother to seek aid from , but the king rebuffed Kamzu without even seeing him. In 632, he finally managed to persuade Kamzu to relent about visiting .
Personality
Mago is a man with a vision. Much as he loves his brother, Kamzu's vision is rather too specific for Mago. He sees and Anput not as places to keep as they are - or at least were before the flood - but to make all the better still. He wonders if the flood might in some respects be a long-term positive. He has travelled, seen the marvels of Jewel, and read of the world beyond, and he wants all of that and more for his own home. He sees potential even in House Phavah's current state. The house still possesses one thing that other places in lack many of: disciplined, experienced, and intensely loyal soldiers. The realm finds itself without the defence of the royal army, currently held uselessly in place by , and that gives the Phavahs leverage.
Besides his capacity for civil administration, Mago is charming, affable company, and well-read too. may be a novelty to him, but it is one which he approaches with comfortable confidence.
Notable Traits
Mago is an adept administrator and agreeable company. He has a knack for incorporating the new into the old and an eye to reform in Phavah's land.
