Prince Roland Otrese

The younger brother of the empress, Roland's tutors made every effort to endow him with the knowledge that he might need if he were to become emperor, or otherwise to assist his sister. Some of it stuck, but as soon as Roland got a say in what he was going to do, he pursued a knightly education, under the tutelage of some of the finest of the Imperial Guard and, when he could bend their ear, which was often, Companions of the First King.

On completing his training in his early twenties, he promptly launched into the business of actually being a knight with every bit of vigour he could muster. He attended every tournament he can make it to. On hearing of any imperial house in need, he has been quick to set off to lend what help he can. He has seen a few skirmishes on the frontiers and acquitted himself well.

Roland sees himself as eventually being like one of the great heroes of old. He takes to heart the idea that a noble's first duty is to ensure the security of their people. He isn't unaware of the requirements of administering an empire, but he prefers to apply all of his ample energy to martial pursuits. While he has a modest degree of experience as a commander, he typically eschews command positions, though should circumstances change, he might well take just about any senior post available. He often participates in tournaments, whether in Sanctuary or elsewhere. Much like his older sister, he conducts himself with grace and decorum in public, although he can get quite lively and animated indeed at times.

Roland is an able and energetic knight, driven by the idea of emulating the deeds of past heroes.
