Boyar Sigitas Sikorin

Sigitas was never meant to be in charge, not really. His aunt, Rasa, was boyar of House Sikorin and Voivode of the Expanse. His uncle, Marek, is an experienced general. His mother, Jadwiga, the youngest sibling of Rasa, is an excellent scout and few know the wilderness of Lonin better than her. However, Sigitas is the only child of the branch, even though he has second cousins in abundance. When Rasa vanished in 629, the house met to consider who to appoint as boyar. Lonin custom favours a near relative of the previous ruler, most often but not always the eldest child, but Rasa had no children. Marek and Jadwiga both demurred, having no interest in matters of rule, and so it fell to the young Sigitas. His father, Augis, comes from one of the tiny noble families of the Expanse.

Sigitas wasn't by any means an unpopular choice, but with the house council having gone through his uncle and mother as their first and second choices, it did rather leave the young man as the default fallback option. At the time, he had no experience at all of rule, and indeed his main proficiency as a youth was with personal combat and a spread of theory in other matters. He has much more to deal with and more directly, now, than he ever quite expected.

His uncle Marek was appointed Voivode of the Expanse by King Victor Vanzek, which does leave Sigitas effectively deferring to Marek on military matters in the Expanse, which so happens to entail much of House Sikorin's obligations. Marek does tend to give Sigitas room to breathe, at least, and of course has no interest in non-military matters.

Sigitas' recent years have been spent endeavouring to learn this and that and to catch up as quickly as he can. He enjoys the implicit support of his house, but that is somewhat predicated on him not interfering with people who know very well what they are about.

Perhaps at the back of Sigitas' mind, he expected he might be in charge of the house some day, but not for decades yet. Still, he took it with reasonable good grace, after the initial surprise and shortlived alarm. He quickly learned after that to school his reactions and put forward an air of calm, even though he is not quite possessed of the unflappable cool that characterises his uncle and mother. Glimpses of uncertainty still show through here and there as he learns how to rule, very much on the job.

Sigitas is often mild-mannered and unassuming. Indeed, the only time where he is routinely otherwise is when he is leading soldiers, a task for which he received extensive education and which is often a core duty of Sikorins. It does come with the odd quirk that he may be taking orders from his uncle, he he routinely looks to as a model of how a Sikorin should be.

Sigitas is a competent fighter, has a calm demeanour and sharp enough mind, but still has much to learn of rule.
