Ancient Ruins

Scattered around the empire are ruins of ancient times. In some cases, modern settlements are built on ancient sites. In others, they are well known but abandoned, almost features of the landscape, that people might visit from time to time as sources of building material. Every now and then, an explorer comes across otherwise unknown ruins in the wilderness. Recovering lost heritage is generally regarded as being worthy in its own right in much of the empire and, if an explorer is lucky indeed, they might find some manner of treasure.
