Ogres
Ogres can be found in various places across Elthos and Salthos. They are big humanoids, with average heights of 250 cm or more, with bulk and muscle mass which are disproportionately high compared with their height.
Ogres are best known to the people of the empire for their voracious appetites. They will eat all sorts of food, although their favourite is meat, and they have no compunction about eating people. There is not strictly a ban on ogres in the empire, but a longstanding reality is that they are enough of a menace that they are habitually driven off or, on occasion, paid off, if they stop in a civilised space for long. Ogres living in wilder regions are viewed in the way one might view rather dangerous wildlife.
Ogres are intelligent enough to speak, to form social groups - they have a clan structure and move in groups of up to thirty sometimes - and to construct rudimentary tools.
Ogres are sometimes employed as mercenaries, though this is very rarely done within the empire. Their habit of noisily eating fallen enemies after battles can be demoralising. Certain non-imperial polities employ them. They are especially popular among the of and of , though in those cases, it is not clear whether the ogres are employed or enslaved.
