River and Sun

are the twin beings worshipped in . River is the giver of life, to plants, people and animals alike. Sun is the watcher and protector, the one who exhorts plants to rise further and people to venture out each morning. Both are mighty, River inexorable and unstoppable as it gives life to the world, and Sun potent and fierce.

The institution of nobility in Hadash is built about River and Sun. Nobles are blessed by River and Sun and are called Exalted. Whatever a noble does, it is inherently noble.

Most Hadashi towns have a temple or shrine to River and Sun. These are primarily funded by noble houses. Clergy lead prayers to River and Sun, although this is almost an incidental function. More often, they act as interlocutors between common people and the nobility, who, being blessed, can do the work of River and Sun in a very direct way. A vast temple complex in Jewel stands along the Emerald River and is the central holy site in Hadash. It has been underfunded in recent years, amid 's ill rule.

Hadashis generally acknowledge the existence of deities worshipped elsewhere, but almost invariably presume that all must be an aspect of River or of Sun. They are rarely exercised about the matter. The Emerald River and the strength of the Sun in the sky over Hadash show that it is surely the blessed land.
