Slavery
Chattel slavery, the ownership of other humans who can be bought and sold at will, is illegal in the empire. Serfdom, where a person and their family are required to work land and cannot leave without the landowner's permission, is practised in the , but not elsewhere. Most in the empire would not regard serfdom as slavery, though views on it vary. Forced labour happens in the case of criminals, but the term is limited and their family are not also enslaved.
