Thasen Culture

Geographic Patterns
A feudal realm existed where modern day now is, but in the wake of the , with few nobles surviving, more influential groups, particularly those who happened to own the ships which people had fled on or which otherise commanded loyalty, took control of the region.

Values
Thasen culture has deviated from the rest of eastern Elthos, where people are often expected to perform at least some sort of duty, and is driven in large part by the pursuit of wealth, at least by the already wealthy, while the poor are among the poorest on the continent and have little say in anything. The absence of any real cultural values in Thasen means that virtue is entirely a matter of individual perspective. Some adopt their values from elsewhere or make up their own. Social cohesion is poor, at best.

Most in the empire, and in fact an increasing number in Thasen, believe that the Grand Republic is at a breaking point. Few believe that it can continue as is. There has been a shift in the attitude of certain younger plutocrats too, with increasing numbers seeking reform.

Settlement Patterns
Thasen is based around a few large cities. It is questionable whether it has enough farmland to support itself, but it dominates maritime trade from the Sea Between to the Encircled Sea, and along the coasts of Elthos and Salthos, and imports plenty. The urban poor are reliant on the provision of food by plutocrats in exchange for their labour.

Festivals
Most public celebrations in Thasen are hosted by one of the plutocratic houses to aggrandise themselves and appease the masses.
