Military of Thasen

Organisation
The military of Thasen is by any measure the worst in the empire. The absolute bare minimum of the Grand Republic's wealth goes into maintaining its armies and then only when it effectively protects or leads to wealth.

The noble houses of Thasen retain house guards to ensure their own safety. These soldiers are well equipped, well paid, and few in number. They are elite by the standards of Thasen but not particularly by the standards of the rest of the empire. The cities of the republic have garrisons that are just enough to keep the peace, just the bare minimum in size, and certainly not enough to defend a city from a determined assault.

Thasen relies almost entirely on the security of being a member of the empire. If pushed, the houses of Thasen seek to hire mercenary companies, although actually admitting such a company to an otherwise almost undefended city is never a particularly welcome prospect.

Thasen funds a number of warships, though with mercenary - often Dyrian - crews, and then only to ensure the safety of its own shipping.

Doctrine
Thasen has not fought a war in a very long time. Internal conflict is resolved through politics. The absence of any real army is scarcely a concern to the average resident of the republic. Some, particularly reform-minded individuals, look beyond the empire's borders with some alarm. In any event, the absolute lack of military tradition, a proper professional army, or any experience whatsoever of conflict beyond funding it from afar means that military doctrine in the event of war in Thasen is entirely a matter for individuals to theorise.
