The Great Desert

The Great Desert lies to the south of the Red Waste and is adjoined to Salthos by a narrow isthmus. It is generally deemed part of Salthos, being that Hadash is the closest civilisation of any substantial size.

The Great Desert has been a sandy wasteland for as long as any historical record attests. A few settlements cling to the southern coast, along the Pearl Sea, and the western coast, along the Sea Between. The people from there fish, grow meagre crops in what thin soil they can find near the coast, and trade metal - though not in any great bulk - with the people of Hadash.

The people of the Great Desert appear to believe that the land was once thriving and fertile and that something terrible befell it. There is no consistency to any tales beyond that speculation. Hadashi merchants, with whom they have the most contact, often find the desert coastal settlements' few denizens unsettling, between the general sense that every one of them is in some way harrowed and, more than that, the fact that they opt to remain in such a benighted place, and limit their time in ports as much as they can.
